About

I am an Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Urban Affairs and International Affairs at Northeastern University in Boston, USA.

My scholarship examines climate adaptation and sustainable transitions internationally and in the United States, and a key motivation across my research is climate justice. I am particularly interested in questions of power and equity in processes of transformation across multiple scales. I also study questions of equity in energy transitions in marginalized communities, asking whose voices matter and who is left behind by new policies and programs, and how to align funding with local priorities. Much of my research uses a “follow the money” approach to analyze climate finance.

I teach graduate courses in climate, environment, and development policy, as well as the undergraduate capstone course in International Affairs. I received Northeastern’s University Excellence Teaching Award in 2023 and the Outstanding Teaching Award from the College of Social Sciences and Humanities in 2022.

My work has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, UNDP, the Climate Social Science Network (CSSN), and the Hewlett Foundation, among others, and I have published in top climate, development, and environmental policy journals including Nature Climate Change, Climate Policy, World Development, Annual Review of Environment and Resources (ARER), Climate and Development, Environmental Science and Policy, Current Opinion in Environmental Sustainability, and OneEarth. I have conducted fieldwork in Central America and East Africa, and currently have collaborate community-engaged research projects in Puerto Rico, West Virginia, and Massachusetts.

Previously I was a post-doctoral fellow at The Climate Policy Lab at the Fletcher School, Tufts University, where I also completed a PhD in International Relations and a MA in International Environmental Policy and Development Economics. I have a BA in Environmental Studies and Sociology/Anthropology from Middlebury College.
